Abstract

Online environments create opportunities for unique and transformative learning methods; however, it takes creativity, time, and a willingness to give students a level of control to maximize learning and student productivity.Too often, various technologies and approaches are used in isolation; however, through "mash-ups," experiences and environments that facilitate teamwork, collaboration, and retention can be integrated. This chapter illustrates an experiment in using discussion forums as a means of creating a round-based, table-top simulation where the students role played and used simulation techniques simultaneously. This chapter will discuss what worked, what didn't, and ideas for overcoming challenges.
