Abstract
This phenomenological study sought to examine ethnic minority students' experiences with racial discrimination in academia. Using a semi-structured interview protocol, five participants explored the impact of racial discrimination on their academic performance and the process of addressing their experiences. Five themes emerged in this study including: (a) identity, (b) belonging, (c) emotional wellness, (d) interpersonal relationships, and (e) overcoming discrimination. These themes and the resulting implications are discussed with emphasis on educational policies and counselling practices.
