Abstract
Learning in the 21st century requires that new instructional and learning skills be implemented for both teachers and students for current and future generations of learners to be successful. The author discusses recent research that has reported that traditional teaching and learning models are failing to prepare students for postsecondary learning opportunities and careers (Noddings, 2013). The author then highlights several instructional methods for educational leaders to apply to their educational programs and key competencies that are essential for effective contemporary learning. The topics include the use of inquiry-based learning, professional learning communities as an instructional leadership model, and the enrichment of students' learning experience by providing real-world examples for learning that are not confined to single-subject curricular outcomes.
