Abstract
Now I will tell you something of what to expect in this thesis. I begin the Literature Review with an exploration of the ways in which certain educators, starting from our earliest writing teachers have damaged our ability to express ourselves freely on paper. I continue the Literature Review with an overview of the work of several teachers who use a variety of methods designed to undo that damage and release our silenced, writing voices. I have chosen these particular people, not only because I respect their work, but because I feel that in combination their methodologies are more than the sum of their parts.
