Trauma is faced by people every single day and can impede many different implications for the sufferer making each experience very much an individual reaction. Trauma experienced during childhood is considered to have different implications and more detrimental consequences than during adulthood. Knowledge and awareness of Developmental Trauma as well as a unified approach to supporting this population is essential in order to prevent the many long-term consequences that stem from the trauma faced during childhood. This literature review will consider what Developmental Trauma is and its characteristics, as well as discuss the current diagnostic, assessment and treatment discussions occurring. Then finally will include the limitations and discussions related to Developmental trauma and also recommendations to support this population.
