Abstract
In the study of sport psychology and performance-enhancement techniques in general, a great deal has been studied, observed, and discussed within the field of athletics. My interest over the years has been in identifying what other possible populations of "performers" that have been generally neglected by the sport psychology professional would also benefit from similar types of performance-enhancement techniques. There is a whole world of performers, in addition to athletes, out there. The purpose of my study is to find out what factors (including performance enhancers) are present in a successful performance by a musical theater performer as defined by the performer.
My purpose is to cross over into an area that has not been discussed from the sport psychologist's perspective. There are many professional benefits in discovering other realms in which to practice our skills. I have personally seen the benefits to drama students and voice students using what are commonly referred to as "sport psychology techniques" in my internships. By studying musical theater performers, a perspective can be gained by all parties.
