Abstract
This project evolves around the image of Lot's Wife (who turned into a Pillar of Salt) and the theme of 'Looking Back'. Using the biblical reference as a starting point, I move ideas and materials around, I break them up until they almost disintegrate--piecing together the remnants to give them new meaning. Through a mixed media installation incorporating salt, an erased book, a burned atlas and several sculptural pieces, I investigate the simultaneous necessity and redundancy of the past-- whether it is advisable to look back and/or destroy in order to. go forward. This brings me to the proposition that 'Disintegration and corrosion of materials may lead to integration and correlation of ideas'.
