Abstract
Our actions follow our values, which evolve from our belief structure. Tracing that evolution is important for holistic health educators who are in the business of encouraging people to change their behavior, but coursework for those educators typically does not include information on spiritual and religious traditions and how it affects health. The proposed curriculum details why health educators need to integrate spirituality and health and how that might be done in an introductory class using an integral model. By the end of the course, students will be able to describe some of the major spiritual traditions in the U.S. and how they can affect health behavior, discuss the relationship of spirituality to health, and name some of the issues of addressing spirituality with their clients. Students will also explore their spiritual health journey and how it might affect professional practice. A syllabus and extensive bibliography are included.
