Abstract
The purpose of this project was to assist museums in developing more relevant and effective history collections through collection development planning. The project resulted in guidelines that will enable museums to critically assess existing history collections, exploit underutilized resources and prepare a focused collection development plan. The history collection of the University of Alaska Museum (UAM) was selected for this project; however, the guidelines are applicable to history collections of other museums as well.
