Abstract
The Athletic Excellence Training Program (AET) was explored with twelve members, ages 17-24, of the University of California at Davis women's tennis team. The AET program combines mental techniques with personal skill techniques to enhance mental and performance consistency. The Psychological Performance Profile for Sports and the Competitive Adjective Profile were given as pre-and post-test measures to assess ones personal and mental training skills. The Sign Test was used to analyze the data from the pre and past-tests. Significant results were found in both the Psychological Performance Profile for Sports and several areas of the Competitive Adjective Profile. Based upon the results of this study, there needs to be further research conducted on the Athletic Excellence Training Program to further validate its usefulness with college tennis players.
