Abstract

The Pubic Bone is one of the most heavily studied bones in the body. The pubic symphysis of the pubic bone is an important area to determine age. There are three major studies that were done on the pubic symphysis by Todd, McKern/Stewart/Gilbert and Suchey/Brooks/Katz. This thesis will examine the pubic bone, along with the anatomy, sexual and racial characteristics. It will also explain the three main studies, along with their limitations, and conclude which is the best to use for determination of age.
