Abstract

The purpose of this master's project has been to present Native California points of view about museums, to recognize the contributions Native Californians can make to. museums, and to encourage increased collaboration between museums and California Indians. This will, be accomplished by presenting the museum community with a compilation of quotations taken from the public testimony of and personal interviews with contemporary California Indians. The quotations have been organized into six topical areas addressing issues in the fields of administration, collections, interpretation, exhibition and display, collaboration, and programming. Suggestions for developing collaborative contacts and relationships with Native Californians have also been included.
