Abstract

The purpose of this master's project was to develop a model to record the donors' personal perspective on their objects at the time such objects are initially given to collecting museums. Based on a sampling of practices used in museums today, the model will aid registrars and curators in recording donor information about their objects in a timely and structured manner. This documentation will diversify the information contained in the object files, thus expanding interpretative possibilities for curators, exhibition developers, public programmers, and other museum professionals. It will also share the important responsibility of object documentation between museum professionals and the community from which the museum collects objects.
