Abstract

Dutch Bros. strategy to be different and better than other coffee companies stems from their devotion to an optimistic attitude and friendly disposition. This strategy works extremely well because they have turned into one of the most popular and profitable privately held coffee companies. Another major strategy is the drive to keep the company in private hands and not sell out to a major corporation, like Starbucks. This strategy brings the company closer to the local community because the profits stay local and the company is highly involved in each of the communities they serve. The company has regular management meetings to make sure that everything is staying on track with the company goals and values. These meetings also serve as a melting pot to bring new ideas to the company. The main strategic and leadership issue facing the Boersma's is getting top quality leaders to own, manage, and implement each of the new franchise opportunities. Each opportunity being different from, but all relying on the same system, requires a lot of coordination. They, and their management team, will have to be effective, strong managers.
