Abstract
Peak experience, flow, and peak performance are positive and subjective phenomenon that represent optimal human states. Peak experience is characterized by Laski (1962) and Maslow (1964, 1968, I 197 1) as an intense, highly valued moment. Csikszentmihalyi describes flow as an intrinsically rewarding or autotelic experience 1 (1975 a, b, 1990). Privette (1964, 1965, 1968, 1981, 1982; Privette and Landsman, 1983) defines peak performance as an episode of superior functioning, which transcends modal behavior. The literature related to optimal human states lacks coherent findings, contains a plethora of semantic confusion, and presents numerous methodological issues (Privette, 1983; Mclnman and Grove, 1991). The intent of this annotated bibliography is to summarize and clarify I selected articles, books, book chapters, and manuscripts, to achieve a better understanding of these elusive states. An extensive review of selected psychology and sport psychology literature is presented and I categorized by the main focus and content of the resource.
