dc.description.abstract | Depression and anxiety are highly prevalent and debilitating mental health concerns worldwide with high comorbidity rates that are linked to severe health problems and elevated mortality risks. The purpose of this literature review is to explore Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as an effective treatment for comorbid depression and anxiety by examining its effects on the transdiagnostic factors of depression and anxiety: rumination, expressive suppression, avoidance. This paper presents evidence for the transdiagnostic factors, the effectiveness and mechanisms of change in ACT, and techniques that have been shown to improve depression and anxiety. The paper will end with workshop recommendations. This review may be helpful for mental health professionals. By using ACT, professionals may incorporate a more effective treatment when working with clients struggling with both depression and anxiety. | |
