Abstract

Results of experimental studies correlating belief in psi with psi scores, and results from studies correlating psi scores with altered states of consciousness, appear to indicate that these conditions seemingly facilitate the development and/or the manifestation of psi experiences/ abilities. In order to test the hypothesis that members of a subculture, wherein these conditions thrive, will report having had more psi experiences/abilities than members of a subculture, wherein these conditions are virtually nonexistent, a survey questionnaire designed to collect information gathered on claims of psi experiences/abilities reported by the survey participants, was administered to two radically diverse groups. Because of the author's familiarity with. the Philippines, and because the country offers much diversity in terms of degree of exposure to the West, the two distinct subcultural groups were chosen from Northern Luzon, Island. One group consisted of members of the Isnag tribe, living in the remote, rural community of Dagara, in the F.alinga-Apayao Province, while the second group consisted of residents of a division of Sampaloc, an urban district in the municipality of Manila.
