Abstract
On April 22, 1981, an exhibit entitled Continuum - The Immortality Principle opened at the Oakland Museum in Oakland, California. The exhibit, a presentation of sixty four panels of text and graphics, was originally designed by Kay Croissant and Katherine Dees for the California Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles. Its aim is to integrate information about death and immortality from scinece, religion, mysticism, psychology, philosophy and art. Sponsored in the Bay Area by John F. Kennedy University of Orinda, California, Continuum was displayed in Oakland for two months. During that time a broad, community-based enrichment program was offered to the residents of the Bay Area. The name of this enrichment program was the Continuum Project, and is the subject of this report.
This Continuum Project report will review the development and implementation of the many activities designed to supplement the Continuum Exhibit. The report will include: the philosophical basis for the renewed interest, particularly in the West, in issues related to death, dying and immortality; an historical overview of how the Continuum Exhibit and the Continuum Project came to the Bay Area; a step by step description of the Project's development; a bibliography directly related to the themes of Continuum; and appendices containing a sampling of graphics, correspondence, publicity materials and visitor commentaries which might assist other individuals in developing their own activities related to the Continuum Exhibit.
