Abstract
This thesis is a manuscript style document in which I examine counselling topics and themes that I find critical to my professional development at this stage in my career. My research approach and choice of literature is practice-friendly rather than systemic or meta-analyses. A practice-friendly review focuses on research in terms of how it may be used to inform practice (McLeod, 2012). In Chapter Two, I explore client preferences and ways of including them into practice. In Chapter Three, I examine some means available to clinicians when determining theoretical allegiance. In Chapter Four, I examine preceding chapters by reflecting upon clinical implications, professional development and thoughts towards moving forward.
