Abstract

Throughout the history of law enforcement there has been a perpetual quest to improve crime-solving techniques. As our world changes and evolves, so does criminal investigation. As our society technologically advances, so does the field of forensic science. With the advent of lasers, a more sophisticated method of detecting and uncovering evidence was discovered. Today law enforcement has many tools available to use, both in the field and in laboratories, to enhance and reveal previously undetectable evidence. One of the current pieces of equipment being widely used today is the Alternative Light Source. Currently, the Omnichrome Omniprint 1000 is one of the leading Alternative Light Sources on the market. A thorough examination of the Omniprint 1000 and its effective uses was performed. The documented results indicated that Alternative Light Sources are a very useful tool in the law enforcement effort of crime solving. All steps required to effectively use an Alternative Light Source are also documented.
