Abstract

The purpose of this project is to facilitate collections management processes by employing proper documentation for works of art through the promotion of standard nomenclature for specialized collections. The goal is to produce a prototype list of common terminology for ancient Chinese ritual bronze vessels in the Shang dynasty (1750 - 1045 B.C.). The glossary of terms functions as a reference guide for museum professionals and the public that enables the user to cross reference terms and to convert from one transliteration to another.
