Abstract
This paper introduces a model of childbirth education called the Nurtured Beginnings Model (NBM) to help aid educators through the process of developing prenatal education within hospital settings. There is a need for a new and holistic model of childbirth education that will enable childbirth education classes to move beyond basic education of pregnancy, labor, and birth, as childbirth education should offer women the opportunity to actively participate, learn, grow, and transform in the process. Core components of the model include high quality education that includes evidence-based information; a women-centered structure; a supportive group environment; and support for developing or maintaining effective communication skills.
