Abstract

Change is loosely defined and often achieved through great struggle and many failures. How does change happen? What part of change remains elusive even when we want it so badly and what can we shift in order to allow changes to take place in our lives? One way to look at change is through the personal narrative. Every person has their own story to tell. Their stories will change depending on who is listening, the people who surround them, and the culture they live in. How do these stories affect their ability to change and experience healing? How can we use our stories (and our clients' stories) to facilitate health and change? This paper is written for every health practitioner and explanations are given about change, narratives, and narrative healing as well as the description of a program to incorporate personal narratives into a wide variety of healing modalities and practices.
