Abstract
The recent and dramatic population move from urban centers to rural communities has suggested the need for an examination of various arcadian characteristics, among them the state of rural arts. In California, the new and timely financial support of the California Arts Council's State and Local Partnership Program in most California counties has supported such an investigation. This thesis will address that task in Siskiyou County's town and country areas by describing in Part I the background of the arts study, reviewing in Part II additional California county arts studies, discussing in Part III the methods of the arts study, reporting in Part IV the results of the arts study, explaining in ?art V the interpretations of the arts study, and closing in the conclusion with final remarks about the state of town and country arts in the study area, Siskiyou County.
