Abstract

Throughout time, the search for the root causes of criminal behavior has formed the basis for most criminological research and studies. This Master’s thesis will attempt to provide the reader with information regarding the numerous theories on criminality. My goal is to explore the sources of criminal behavior through biological, sociological and psychological theories on criminality. These ideas range from genetic inheritance to personality type, from environmental factors to rational choice. It is important to note that not one theory of criminality in itself 15 a valid explanation of criminality; it is best explained by combining the theories that will be discussed throughout.
