I have designed this thesis basically as a critique on the research and literature that has been done on this subject adding annotation throughout of my own ideas and theories. In this paper, I have intended to draw from and synthesize the published works of many writers on this subject. I have incorporated their various ideas into a composite picture, pointing out where they tend to agree or disagree.
