Abstract

The project section of my paper details the practical realities of implementing my own project. I discuss the challenges and successes of production, and I describe my own journey of finding the story for my podcast. I also talk about how my own research informed several of my production decisions, such as the decision to take a deeper dive into one or two stories, and the decision to insert myself into the story to an extent, in the pursuit of increased transparency. Finally, my conclusions and recommendations synthesize everything I learned during this process to provide a concise description of guidelines, or best practices, for museums to create effective podcasts. The goals of museum podcasts should transcend education and interpretation to include promoting participation and building community across diverse audiences. Podcasts should focus on "the story" above all else. Content should be authentic, transparent, dynamic, to keep listeners engaged, and museums should not shy away from. experimenting with this still relatively new medium.
