Abstract
Serial killers are often observed to posses the same physical characteristics as any non-deviant member of society. This may not be entirely true. On a large scale, their faces and statures appear average. On a more detailed scale, however, serial murderers may appear much different. Certain internal and external factors contributing to their deviant behavior may influence physical characteristics as they develop. This study will focus on facial asymmetry, specifically in the eye area, to determine the possible link between facial feature positioning and serial homicidal tendencies. The frequently criticized physiognomy model will be utilized as a backdrop for the research, and the accuracy of the physiognomy model will also be explored. This research is not intended to isolate specific members of society based upon appearance. Rather, it will explore the potential correlation between facial feature asymmetry with respect to a serial killer population versus a randomly selected population.
