Abstract

This study falls into the category of research from a feminist perspective on women's issues, in which finding the "voice of women" is a central theme. There has been some qualitative research done from a feminist perspective, for instance: Boucher (1996) did a study on how women socially construct leadership in organizations using memory work; Burton (1996) did a study on exploring intuition and leadership; Drennen Koller (1996) on the relationship of eight women managers to power in the context of the management systems they are part of; Romano (1996) on the experience of women student leaders: their back ground, how they learned to be leaders, how they led and their relations with their peers; and Fletcher (1999) did a study on women engineers working within an organization in which their voices were silenced and the processes that. were involved. Of these three studies, two used methods in which the research itself was educational and empowering to women and in that way shaped the women's experience.
