Abstract
Research into trends and associated behaviors in the health, well-being, and success of college freshmen, as well as the concerns of college-bound high school students, indicates that they are experiencing unnecessary stress and high attrition rates. Not enough is done to help high school seniors make a smooth transition from high school to college and learn to take good care of themselves when they're on their own. A review of current models, programs, and policies demonstrates the need for expansion and wellness integration in the college preparation process. Basic elements of holistic thought and education could be very beneficial. This paper includes a detailed account of select topics that may be particularly relevant to this transition. A sample outline for a high school course of this nature is included for further use and illustration.
