dc.description.abstract | Many people suffer from chronic pain and experience challenges with physical, social and psychological aspects. Recently, literature has found there is a link between grief, loss and chronic pain. Although mindfulness has been found to address the physical aspects of chronic pain there is minimal research on interventions for addressing grief and loss associated with chronic pain. This systematic review aims to answer the research question: Will clinical interventions of mindfulness and the interventions of the Grief Recovery Method® alleviate the sense of grief and loss for individuals with chronic pain? This systematic review examines grey literature and thoroughly investigates eleven articles including six qualitative, three quantitative and two mixed methods to determine the effectiveness of Mindfulness and The Grief Recovery Method as a therapeutic approach for chronic pain and grief and loss associated. The findings indicate that Mindfulness is effective for treating physical aspects of chronic pain and improving quality of life. The findings also determined the Grief Recovery Method® could alleviate the sense of grief and loss associated with chronic pain, there is a need for normalising grief and chronic pain and a need for education on grief and loss as a result of chronic pain. Overall it is found that integrating Mindfulness and The Grief Recovery Method® it would offer a wholesome approach to alleviating grief and loss associated with chronic pain. | |
