Abstract
The purpose of this project was to create a general awareness in the museum world that Deaf people in the United States make up a minority social group with their own language, traditions and values. Until now, most museums in the United States have tried to serve their Deaf audiences through special access programs designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities. However, many Deaf people do not see themselves as being disabled; rather they see their deafness as a unique characteristic that shapes their personal and social identity, creating bonds between like people who share the same language and value system.
