Abstract

With general public access to the Internet, persons predisposed to having sex with children have discovered a newfound method for finding and exploiting their victims. The widespread availability of explicit images as well as the ease with which people can communicate anonymously and discreetly from their own homes has created a harmful tool for enabling sex crimes against children to occur more frequently. This paper will discuss the problem facing law enforcement, parents and the large number of children who use the Internet. As both a law enforcement officer of five years and a parent, this author hopes it will also work towards finding ways to identify, arrest and convict these sexual predators faster and more efficiently.
