Abstract

At the close of the millennium, we are coming to grips with a multifaceted understanding of the divine. Popular culture is trying desperately to make sense of this. Spinoza's philosophy provides us with a recipe for fulfillment within a divine schema because it works well with contemporary science, it has no gender reference, it is personally achieved, and it is also transformative to the individual. Implicit within this reformation of reality is an opportunity for humanity to create a new and invigorating religious paradigm. Spinoza's innate sense of the divine makes his philosophy eminently useful for this quest. Indeed, his ideas much fit better with our times than they did with his own.
