Abstract

HEARTPATH challenges the way society views art, artist, aging and life. The concept is presented that art is not separate from life but an expression of it. The expression of the creative spark we each carry within us is art, and influences both how we live and how we age. Thus, HEARTPATH is a method to unleash the power of our institutionalized elderly, and it is a way of living life for everyone else engaged in the aging process. HEARTPATH reaches into the community to heal the severed connection between the outside world and those within long-term care facilities. The work of the author as an Activity Director and others in the field of Gerontology demonstrates how a successful activity program promotes continued growth and creativity in life.
