Abstract
My hope is that this study can provide information for children, parents, and coaches on the importance of athletics and how necessary it is for a child to have this kind of outlet to help children build a strong foundation to become a healthy adult. Many children are unaware of the benefits of athletics in their adolescent lives, and are choosing to spend their time in unhealthy ways. With the increasing popularity of the computer, children find themselves in more isolated, less physically active activities, as opposed to those involving social interaction, social comparison, and physical movement. I hope through parents and coaches reading this study, they will take more of a direct approach in getting children involved in activities that promote social interaction, that do not emphasize winning, but rather an intrinsic motivation to improve.
