Abstract
The psychic realm that precedes Melanie Klein's Paranoid Schizoid Position adumbrates our epigenesis. In reference to this realm, Dr. James Grotstein proffered the concept of a Background Object of Primary Identification, a matrix of descendance. With further research, Dr. Grotstein placed the concept of Background Object in desuetude in favor of a more subjective concept, the Background Presence of Primary Identification. This study provides a phenomenological investigation into the existence of the Background Object and Background Presence. Interviews were held with psychoanalysts who have, in session, experienced the Background Presence of Primary Identification. This study is an organization of evidentiate that is both phenomenological and conceptual, evidentiate which indicates the presence of Dr. James Grotstein's Background Presence of Primary Identification, Ultimate Subjectivity.
