Abstract

Sexual Assault in the United States Military has been an ongoing problem. The Department of Defense has created the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response program, an entity that aims to study this epidemic in the hopes of understanding how to approach this issue and create training protocols, encourage reporting, and provide victim assistance. In this research project, there are various items that will be looked at including the following: numbers of Restricted Reports and Unrestricted Reports within the last ten years (Fiscal Years 2007 to 2016), the Reporting Rate across all branches of the military within the last ten years (Fiscal Years 2007 to 2016), and demographics of both victims and perpetrators of sexual assault in the military. The main goal is to encourage reporting from the Victims by holding trainings and events that educate military members about their options and resources. This research paper aims to see ift hat goal is being met and possibly look into what else can be done or improved on. The DoD publishes its yearly data and statistics about sexual assault and also employs a yearly survey entitled Workplace and Gender Relations Survey. Both will be used to gather pertinent data, which will then be analyzed using the Chi-Square test.
