As more and more museums move to computerize their records, they must confront and resolve inconsistencies in the terminology used to complete those records. My primary interest with the particular topic was to suggest resolutions for those discrepancies so that, ideally, museums in the United States will be able to effectively exchange information using computers.
I used the descriptive method to discover modern painting media terms currently in use by registrars. Data collected through a questionnaire mailed to registrars was to be the basis of a comprehensive listing of terms they recommended for use.
