Abstract
The negative impacts to alcohol abuse are broad and far reaching. One such example is a motor vehicle accident where alcohol is involved. Finding ways to deter the alcohol impaired from driving, through law enforcement or community action, is paramount in protecting everyone. Two of the most at risk populations for alcohol abuse in general are military and college populations. Each of these communities of at risk populations has made efforts to control drunk driving in various ways. In this study, One county with a large military population and one county with a large college population are the focus. The purpose of the study is to investigate the differences and Similarities of these two populations in their rates over a 5 year period regarding alcohol related fatal motor vehicle accidents and how these rates affect the surrounding communities in this respect. Learning more about the success or failure of these populations to decrease the number of alcohol related fatal crashes will afford insight and understanding of how to implement effective alcohol abuse and drunk driving deterring programs in these high risk populations and focus future research.
