dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this Capstone Research Project is to identify the skills and knowledge that should be included in a short-term, individual-oriented relationship education program designed to teach general relationship literacy and skills to prevent future relationship problems in a population of emerging adults in North America. Chapter 1 will offer an examination of the background of the topic, including a discussion about related theoretical and practical psychology and prevention theory, and a discussion about the purpose and significance of the paper, followed by some key definitions. In Chapter 2, a literature review will locate the evolution of relationship education in an historical context, describe what relationship education aims to do, and reveal emerging opportunities in the field. Next, it will describe existing individual-oriented relationship education programs for emerging adult populations and offer insight into the body of research about the effectiveness of these programs. Chapter 3 contains a detailed look at each of the four existing individual-oriented relationship education programs for emerging adults, including an analysis of their strengths and limitations. Finally, the paper will conclude with a summary of findings and implementation recommendations. | |
