Abstract
The objectives for this study were prepared with several factors in mind. Assessment of the resources in the Chinese community of San Francisco illustrate an absence of programs that serve family interests and promote communication between family members. In order to address this situation in the context of an educational program for the Chinese Culture Foundation, three objectives were drawn up to reflect the required stages of evaluation, research, and writing.
The first objective was to determine the level of interests around a celebrated folk tradition in the Chinese community--the Dragon Boat Festival--and to assess preference for program content. The second objective was to examine educational programs offered by cultural agencies, museums and community organizations that are designed for Chinese families and to promote intergenerational learning. The third objective was to design an intergenerational educational program for the Chinese Culture Foundation based on the Dragon Boat Festival and the aforementioned research.
