Abstract
We make business decisions on a daily basis, both personally and professionally. We rely on business exchanges as consumers, relationships as leaders, innovation for growth and strategy to help us plan and position our organization for success. In business we learn that in order to close a deal or build a team, that there must be a plan or course of action. Most businesses fail because they lack direction, resources, goals vision and a solid 2 -3 year business plan. Today, even the best of the businesses are failing because they lack the strategic plan to grow their organization. On the flip side many businesses are staying afloat because they implemented a strategic plan that involved sustainability and growth. With the down turn of the economy more and more cuts are being made to areas where funding is needed the most. The closing of schools, the dismantling of educational programs, the lack of employment and the list continues to grow. Financial burdens are being placed on the backs of generations to come, without providing any resources to ensure that the burden can be carried or even lighten... The purpose of this case study is to examine the importance of strategic management, leadership and organizational alignment as it applies within the construction of my case study of the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Department.
The no child left behind concept coined at least a decade ago is doing the opposite of what it intended to do. Children are being left behind especially those that have gotten into trouble with the law and become a part of the system. Youth offenders are penalized and at risk for being a repeat offender, rather than a productive citizen. In my case study I intend to focus on two aspects of the juvenile justice system; 1) Prevention and 2) Aftercare in an effort to collaborate between probation department and local court system. In doing so, I will breakdown several strategic concepts and organizational alignment.
