Abstract
Diet, weight, and health have been covered in every imaginable way. However, there is a lack of information about the structural underpinnings of our nutritional landscape, including the financial motivation and corporate manipulation of nearly every aspect of our food system. Food institutions influence one another to create the ideal environment for establishing unhealthy eating habits, resulting in the weight gain and chronic disease increasingly plaguing our nation today. Food companies, the American Dietetic Association, and even our government create such unified corporate marketing that even nutrition educators are unaware of what the "truth" is. This paper uncovers the relationships between these disparate factors. Our purpose is to give holistic health educators a context to better understand the overwhelming and frustrating food environments their clients face. We propose a structure that considers the whole person in its approach to nutrition and overall health, a new paradigm that explores all avenues of being "fed."
