| dc.description.abstract | There is an emerging interest between the field of sport psychology and injured athletes. For as long as sports has existed, so have injuries. However, its been just within the past ten years that sport psychology has applied its expertise to injured athletes. In my study, I am looking at injured recreational athletes throughout their rehabilitation. I am researching, from a psychological perspective, what these injured athletes need as part of their rehabilitation. Injured athletes have an orthopedic specialist, a physical therapist, but is there someone to focus in on their emotional responses to injury as well as the obstacles faced during rehabilitation? An injury can be a devastating and oftentimes emotional experience for an athlete. Through my research, I will explore what happens to an athlete mentally, after suffering an injury. From that information, I will learn what individual athletes need to psychologically assist them with rehabilitation and ultimately, I will explore what they need to prime themselves for return to their sport. | |
