Abstract
In the field of sport psychology, the majority of the studies examining sports have been conducted with little emphasis on being sport-specific or on ethnicity and culture. There has also been a call for more cross-cultural work in sport psychology (Duda & Allison, 1990; Duda & Hayashi, 1995). This current study examined sport participation among male Mexican-American varsity level baseball players and the influence their parents have on their sport participation. This study looked at the topics of participation, ethnicity/culture, and family dynamics (parents/guardians). Obtaining the perspective of the Mexican-American baseball player and the perspective of the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the player will be enlightening and educational for coaches, educators, and sport psychology practitioners working with the population to gain a better understanding of the variables involved with the population.
