Abstract
For the case studies, I chose three institutions that are working in three different interdisciplinary ways. The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is currently undergoing a major transformation. It has created newly focused centers made up of cross-functional teams rather than the traditional departments and practices. The Fowler Museum at the University of California, Los Angeles partners with campus departments such as anthropology, folklore, and art history, as well as with community members, to illuminate visual culture. The Center for Land Use Interpretation, in Los Angeles, uses a broad lens through which to examine human impact on the land, and also partners with outside experts from a variety of fields.
