Abstract
Low self-esteem in women is socially constructed and effects health. This paper describes the journey from low to high self-esteem. Research indicates that the teen population is the most vulnerable because they are affected by cultural and societal influences that perpetuate limiting gender stereotypes. Innersense is a health intervention program that I have created to address this issue. This program provides an opportunity for teen girls to create their own identity while attaining a high self-esteem by deconstructing rigid gender roles that are imposed on them from birth.
