Abstract
Dyslexia has many facets than just a learning disability, it is a "life problem" not just a school or an academic problem, as dyslexia impacts more aspects of one's life than learning only. The social and emotional impact that dyslexia can leave on an individual can have severe and lastly consequences on ones' self-esteem and self-worth. Dyslexia can leave emotional scars on an individual, which can be carried throughout life, and greatly impact the person's self-esteem and self-concept. Self-esteem is a crucial aspect of all children and youth, and for the dyslexic child, self-esteem is an especially sensitive area. This thesis provides an autoethnography account of my own experiences growing up with dyslexia, and the implications dyslexia has had on my self-esteem and self-concept. By sharing my own personal accounts, I hope to encourage awareness and insight to the social and emotional consequences of living with dyslexia and provide a deeper insight to the relationship between dyslexia and self-esteem.
