Abstract
A healthy function of the vagus nerve pathways will increase right hemisphere activation, increasing capability of accessing therapeutic reverie and the associated benefits thereof. If we can honor this sequence, it becomes natural to instigate the process of achieving immersive experience by first improving vagus nerve function. In this paper it is proposed that by practicing mindful tasks during therapy, we can be working on the feedback loop of vagus nerve function and rich interaction concurrently and in a rewarding context. The benefits and drawbacks of vagal tone levels on mental and physical health are summarized. Accessing therapeutic reverie by improving vagal tone through practice of mindful tasks is explored. The term Task-Based Counselling as a therapeutic method for improving health outcomes is introduced. Potential future research in these areas is discussed to help improve understanding of these interrelationships between vagal tone, reverie and accessing these in a therapeutic setting with mindful tasks.
